Easton Sports recalls Lacrosse Helmets due to injury hazard

Easton Raptor Lacrosse Helmet

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Easton Sports, has announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product.

Name of product: Easton Raptor Lacrosse Helmets

Units: About 12,000

Importer: Easton Sports, of Scotts Valley, Calif.

Hazard: The chin bar can break, causing the wearer to suffer a jaw or facial injury.

Incidents/Injuries: Easton Sports has received six reports of the chin bar cracking or breaking on impact with a ball or lacrosse stick, including one laceration injury.

Description: This recall involves all Easton Raptor Lacrosse Helmets. “Easton” is printed on either side of the back of the helmet and on the jaw strap. “RAPTOR” is printed low on the back of the helmet in the center. The helmets were sold in sizes XS/S, M/L, and XL/XXL and were available in the following colors: white; matte black; silver; navy blue and white; royal blue and white; and red and white.

Sold at: Sporting goods stores and online from November 2011 through March 2012 for about $250.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these helmets immediately and contact Easton Sports for a full refund. BCI Recalls Swing Sets

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Single Post Swing Sets

Units: About 670

Manufacturer: BCI Burke Company LLC, of Fond du Lac, Wisc.

Hazard: The connection on the top beam of the swing set can break, causing the swing beam to collapse, posing a fall hazard to the user. A user or bystander also can be injured by the falling top rail.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received four reports of the swing set beam breaking and one report of child with bruises after falling from the swing.

Description: The recall includes the Single Post Swing Set (model 550-0033) and added bay swings (model 550-0035) with belt or bucket seats. The swings are made with a 2-3/8-inch diameter top beam that is welded to a formed plate on each end to attach to the upright post.

Sold by: BCI Burke or BCI Burke Company representatives from January 2000 through August 2007 for between about $900 to $1500.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the product immediately and remove the existing swings from the top beam immediately. Consumers can re-install the swings once the repair kit is received and installed with the current beam. BCI Burke will contact the owners directly by mail and provide a free repair kit.

Gerber Legendary Blades Recalls Pocket Knives

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, has announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Gerber EAB (Exchange-A-Blade) Pocket Knives

Units: About 154,000

Importer: Gerber Legendary Blades, of Portland, Ore., a division of Fiskars Brands Inc., of Madison, Wis

Hazard: During use, the back of the blade of the knife can slide past the blade support, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Gerber has received eight reports of individuals cutting themselves while using the knife, including several individuals who required stitches.

Description: The recall involves Gerber EAB Pocket Knives, model numbers 22-41548, 22-41548CDIP, 22-01548W and 22-41548W. The knives are small, folding utility knives that can be clipped to the owner’s pocket. The knives are marked with the “Gerber” trademark.

Sold at: Retail stores nationwide, including Wal-Mart, and through on-line stores from September 2006 through August 2007 for about $11.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled knives immediately and contact Gerber to receive instructions on how to return the knife for a free replacement knife.

Scuba masks parts recalled for drowning hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, has announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: AGA Swivels for Scuba Diving Masks

Units: About 1,500

Manufacturer: M&J Engineering, of Poway, Calif.

Hazard: The swivel, which is attached to a diving mask, could separate while diving. This will result in a sudden loss of the diver’s air supply, causing the diver to engage in emergency ascent. This poses a risk of decompression sickness due to rapid ascent or drowning.

Incidents/Injuries: M&J Engineering has received one report of swivels separating from the masks while diving. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves all SW-3000 2nd stage 360-degree swivels for scuba diving masks manufactured between January 2004 and February 2005. The swivel has the date stamped on its body, below the patent number. Swivels that are already repaired have an arrow stamped on the top right corner of the swivel body.

Sold at: Diving retail stores nationwide between January 2004 and February 2005 for about $60.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the scuba diving masks with the swivel attached and contact M&J Engineering to receive a free repair.

Stübben Steeltec Horseback Riding Stirrups Recalled Due to Fall Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Stübben Steeltec SEQ Stirrups

Units: About 500

Importer: Stübben North America, Inc., of Troy, Va.

Hazard: The stirrup’s hinges can break, posing a fall hazard to riders.

Incidents/Injuries: Stübben has received two reports of the stirrups breaking. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled stirrups are attached by straps to a saddle and are used by horseback riders to help them mount a horse or for support while riding. They are made of stainless steel and have a hinge on each side. “Stübben STEELtec” is printed on the stirrups. They were sold in three sizes: 4 ½”, 4 ¾”, and 5”.

Sold at: Stübben authorized dealers nationwide from August 2006 through May 2007 for about $100 per pair.

Manufactured in: Pakistan

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the stirrups immediately and return them to Stübben to receive a full refund.
